Welcome!

“Welcome to Westside!”

That is a greeting you are liable to hear when you come and visit us, at the building or on the Web. One of the things that should make the Lord’s people unique to the rest of the world is hospitality. In the South, it is common to greet one another with a handshake. In the Church, this is almost always the case universally. When you visit us to worship, we would hope that you would be greeted and welcomed and invited back simply because we are interested. There is no quota that we try to meet, just a genuine interest to do only one thing-to glorify God. And that includes welcoming you into our midst.

We believe that He is glorified when we worship. But, worship is more than assembling together on the Lord’s Day (the first day of the week). It is how we conduct ourselves throughout the week, how we interact with those around us and those who are our family in the Lord (you might hear us call one another ‘brother’ or ‘sister’)-and those that visit during our normally scheduled worship services.

Rest assured that we will not ask you for a contribution of your money. We will not demand that you participate. We do invite you to ask us questions about what we are doing and why we do it. We believe that everything we do must be authorized by the Word of God-the Bible. So, very often, you will no doubt hear us quote a scripture (this just means a portion of the Bible) and you will probably hear us refer to a book, chapter, and verse. We do this so often that it is quite natural for us and may be unfamiliar to you. So, please do not feel uncomfortable about it; it is who we are-students of the Bible.

When you read any articles in this blog, you will see many references to scripture. We encourage you to borrow a Bible if you do not have one. In fact, we will probably have an extra one you can keep if you want. But, please follow along and try to look at those passages as they are referenced. For instance, in the opening of this article we mentioned hospitality. Christians (what we call ourselves because we are disciples or followers of Christ) are encouraged to show hospitality toward one another (1 Peter 4:9-when you see a reference like this, it means it is located in 1 Peter [the book], 4 is the chapter, and 9 is the verse). We are also reminded of occasions in the past where hospitality was shown unknowingly to angels (Heb. 13:2).

• From From Chattanooga, TN- Take 1-75 South to exit 345 and turn right at end of the exit ramp (Hwy 41 South) Take Hwy 41 South through Tunnel Hill to Old Cottonmill Road and turn right. Go to the first road and turn left (Mt. Vernon Rd) The building will be on the left.
• From Atlanta, GA- Take I-75 North to exit 336 and turn left (Hwy 41 North) Follow Hwy 41 North to Hwy 201 and Turn Left Go to the traffic light and turn right The building will be on the right.
